Health and Physical Education, Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

Total Credits: 34 - 105. Minimum GPA must be >= 2.5. Program A or B must be verified prior to submitting student teaching application.

PROGRAM OPTION A - Physical Education Only (34 - 49 credits)


Students must pass the PRAXIS Physical Education Content Knowledge (5091) and successfully complete and pass with proficiency a skill assessment equivalent to KRS 181  and KRS 182  before admission into program A.

Professional KRS Education Core (6-9 cr)


Minimum of B- or better is required. KRS 402E KRS 402S , & KRS 404  are required prior to KRS 405 ; regardless of previous experience or coursework.

Student Teaching Residency (12-24 cr)


Taking KRS 406  and KRS 405E  and/or KRS 405S  is dependent on level of teaching licensure desired: Elementary or Secondary (12 cr total). If K-12 licensure is desired both practicum courses and residencies (24 cr) are required. KRS 405E KRS 405S , and KRS 406  require a minimum of B or better. Both courses must be successfully completed in order to become eligibile for certification and licensure.

Required coursework in dependent on undergraduate degree. Exemptions from coursework are handled on a case-by-case basis.

PROGRAM OPTION B - Physical Education Only (61 - 76 credits)


Basic Science Knowledge (13 cr)


Minimum of C- or better is required.

Professional KRS Education Core (6-9 cr)


Minimum of B- or better is required. KRS 402E KRS 402S , & KRS 404   are required prior to KRS 405 ; regardless of previous experience or coursework.

Student Teaching Residency (12-24 cr)


Taking KRS 406  and KRS 405E  and/or KRS 405S  is dependent on level of teaching licensure desired: Elementary or Secondary (12 cr total). If the student would also like to be certified in Health Education they must complete either option A or B below (in addition to PE option A or B above):


Program Option A - Health Education core content courses (12 cr)


Take 12 credits in Health Education (minimum of B- or better is required) and pass the Praxis Content Exam Health Education (5551) (must be completed prior to certification recommendation).

*K-12 certification


*K-12 certification is an option; additional 15 credits required.
